BOLOGNA 2018

I have just about recovered from my trip to Bologna Children’s Book Fair, my 4th visit to the fair.

It was great to catch up with publishers and fellow illustrators, I celebrated The Bright Agency being 15 at their drinks party and had a meal with the Hachette children’s rights team and other author/illustrators. It was a great show, once again incredibly overwhelming, the sheer scale of the halls and the number of illustrators walking them is incredible. This year I felt I made the most of my trip for the first time, meeting with my publishers and getting to know them better. Also talking to other illustrators who were feeling equally overwhelmed! I’m still squeamish about getting my portfolio out for people but did at least show it to my publisher this time, better than last year when I didn’t even open it!

I saw my new book on the Hachette stand, which will be released in April 2019 and picked up a mini version of my superhero steps, made for promotion of my first book.

My work was also exhibited as part of the Silent Book Contest, my wordless book ‘Take one pass it on’ is one of 9 finalists, the winner will be announced in May and be published by Milan based publisher Carthusia Edizioni.
